MYELOPROLIFERATIVE NEOPLASMS (MPNS)
FINAL BUNNING'S BBQ SAUSAGE SIZZLE DAY
SATURDAY AUGUST 22ND 2026
Dear friends of MPN-MATE Research Foundation,
Guys… how we can we ever really say thank you enough?
We may not have raised mega amounts of cash… However, what we did manage will be put to excellent use in our ongoing efforts to fulfil our mandate of improving the “Quality of Life” of all rare blood cancer (specifically) MPN patients here in Australia…
Thank you so much to everyone who aided our efforts & especially those mighty ‘High Value Volunteers’:
Frank, Tony, Ian, Elva, Elise, Milli, Navya, Chloe, Belle, Hiyori, Evann, Hridaan
YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE!
As you may recall, we are a Rare Blood Cancer group of patients working on our mandate to improve the ‘Quality of Life’ to ALL people that have a Myeloproliferative Neoplasm, (an MPN)! Living with a chronic MPN can be most uncomfortable in a great many ways…
Originally, we had hoped to hold our Bunning’s Sausage Sizzle days at the Castle Hill store… Unfortunately however we were informed that there were no new openings unless a cancellation occurred. Hence, our first efforts will now take place at the SEVEN HILLS BUNNING’S store on the following dates:
- Sunday JULY 5th from 07:30AM – 3:30PM (Completed)
&
- Saturday AUGUST 22nd from 07:30AM – 3:30PM (FINAL BBQ FOR 2026)
Unfortunately, our main way of raising “Rare Blood Cancer” awareness & seed funding, was to conduct various types of cycling events. However, Steven has now been run over “twice” inside a 12 mth period, and requires more time before being able to resume creating & participating in more of those cycling events, which by the way he loves to do…
The first accident occurred 22.05.2024 & the 2nd almost a year later on Good Friday (Hit & Run) on 18.04.2025. The 1st accident resulted in nursing X5 pelvic fractures (fortunately no surgery required). And the 2nd, the H&R was far more horrific, injuries sustained were numerous; fractured C3/C4 to cervical spine (neck), fracture to right elbow & massive hematoma (looked like Olympic Mons), broken ribs and a collection of gravel rash over various body parts etc… Actually however of all of those injuries it was the right knee that suffered badly due to not being able to disengage the right foot from the pedals fast enough.
Since the accident occurred I have now been informed by three specialists that a total knee replacement is best. However, doing so places me at greater risk of an infection or a post-operative bleed, due to complications that may arise because of blood cancer, (Myelofibrosis). Hence, I first opted to try a hyaluronic knee injection. Thus far post that procedure I am not really finding much relief and have now decided that the knee operation may have to transpire sooner rather than not at all…
In any event, MPN–MATE Research Foundation along with our excellent crew of Volunteer recruits; will serve up the best made bangers & soft drinks that Bunning’s has ever witnessed and we hope that if you see us in our donned Red Aprons you might stop by briefly to say hello…
Please do ask us about Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs) & we’ll explain as best we can. However for a much deeper understanding please follow this LINK:
