HIT & RUN CYCLING – GOOD FRIDAY

Evening all... :-)

Unbelievably, this POST is simply to advise that I have been unable to attend to my usual website duties for MPN-MATE RF.

On Good Friday, just after leaving my cycling companion Andrew, I was heading east towards home feeling awesome after an excellent Ride with great company.

Sadly, not long after I left Andrew, I had stopped at some traffic lights before proceeding easterly towards Bella Vista & home. Approximately 100m ahead was a left hand turn and upon reaching & passing that turn off, suddenly a huge Black, shiny new style ute with a canopy came from behind my RH Side and cut directly across my path of travel.

It was all so very sudden, no real reaction time afforded to me, and I collided with the LF Hand side of that vehicle. First I was thrown into the rear of that vehicle before being violently flung to the ground predominantly upon my RH side.

It was all quite a shock and very painful really. The Driver never attempted to stop (according to witnesses), and must have known there had been a significant impact!

Many of my injuries were the usual bruises and contusions one might expect, however, a couple of broken ribs and a nasty fracture to my right elbow were my main complaints. The RH elbow has a very large sub-cutaneous swelling that saw me returned to hospital for a day's reassessment. It's still very swollen & my RH arm is badly bruised from wrist to shoulder. Hurts to breath, laugh, cough or sneeze... But I will recover in due course no doubt! 8-)

Just wanted to let all & sundry know why I am being so quiet at the present. Will be back to full duties shortly I am sure...

Best wishes all...

Steve

Hey Steve,
So great to see you back on the forum. Such a horrible and painful experience for you and the second one too.
I have obviously spoken to you on the phone but wanted you to know that I am so sorry you are having to cope with all this and I am sure everyone else joins me in wishing you a speedy recovery.
Please let us all know how you are progressing as I am sure so many of us rely on the forum and enjoy our ‘coffee catchups.’
Hope the elbow and ribs are a little less painful since our last chat.

Best wishes,
Katie x

Sorry to hear about your accident, Steve. Hope you recover soon. Did your MPN and VW affect your treatment and do you think your recovery is likely to be slower?
Looking ahead to when you are able to resume cycling have you tried the M7 cycle way where I believe bikes are segregated from vehicles?
All the best
Allan

Hey Allan... :-)

Nice to hear from you and thank you for your POST.

I can barely believe that this has happened to me yet again... And I was in no way responsible for anything other than 'being there'... Almost 12 mths since the last incident. Bought myself a Lotto ticket today... ;-)

Yes, I believe that the thinners may be playing havoc with the wound on right R elbow, which still resembles a very blackened Mt Fuji in size etc, (even after 3 weeks)? Been back to have it reassessed once and will do so again very shortly when reviewing the Xrays for a 3rd time later this coming week.

Yes, I always do much of my Training RIDEs on the M7 Bike Path... It too can be quite hazardous at times. However, there are usually a lot less motorised vehicular traffic, (tho' still some...). Doing longer Rides means leaving very early to try to avoid the main traffic volume and selecting routes that generally carry quieter traffic too... Unfortunately, one's plans do not always follow one's desires, sadly. :-(

Hopefully, I might heal faster than the last occasion where I was doing Physio' over a 12 week period for my mainly non-displaced fractures to my pelvis (X5) & neck. One of which was slightly displaced...

This time, a couple of broken ribs & a hairline fracture to the radial head if my RH elbow, some neck stiffness again too. But the wound has suffered from some infection, (I believe?). Still monitoring progress... Generally slowly recovering one hopes...

Hoping that I might recommence gentle sessions on my Trainer bike in a week or 2? (fingers crossed)

Thanks for your message Allan, hoping all's well in your world too my friend.

Best wishes

Steve. 8-)

Hi Steve ,
Sorry to hear this!

What a bad luck

Hope they find the guy, a despicable act and not stopping to help!

Hope you will be back on the mend soon.

Best wishes and speedy recovery
