Ritalin

Hi everyone

I have a quick question for you 🙂

In my ongoing battle against fatigue, I found a post on another forum about someone with an MPN having success with Ritalin. My doctor has prescribed me amitriptyline for my fatigue which I'm not completely happy with as I am feeling even more tired than before.

Have any of you been prescribed Ritalin for chronic fatigue?

Thank you 🙂

Hey MiaGrace... :D

Hmmm...? That is a rather interesting question concerning "Ritalin"...

Cannot say that I have ever heard of 'Ritalin' being utilised by any MPN patients, thus far anyways...

However, in my understanding, 'Ritalin' is a known type of "methamphetamine" ... Hence, firstly, I personally would be concerned over its 'Addictive' powers.

In my experience, (for the control of severe bone & joint pains). I do use "Endone" which is not a "methamphetamine", however, it too is quite an addictive drug, & therefore I do try to limit my use of its benefits, in order to maximise its effectiveness... One of the unwanted 'side-effects' from the use of such powerful drugs, can be very annoying withdrawal pains... & again, in my experience... those withdrawals are almost as bad as having to deal w/ the pain that I was hoping to manage & overcome in the first instance etc... :-))

Other well-known Methamphetamines, like Speed & Cocaine, are also stimulants that are known for being highly addictive, & in my own view, I would not be using them myself...

Fatigue!!!

I know is a very close & unwanted friend in my life too... There are other steroid types or classes of drugs, that can be most useful in aiding w/ fatigue., (Prednisolone). Also, I do seem to vaguely recall, that 'Ritalin' was/is sometimes used to help control patients suffering from various types of mental aberrations etc.

Ritalin works by acting on the central nervous system (CNS). A stimulant that works by increasing the availability of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine in your CNS etc...

Anyways, perhaps there are others MATES members that know more about 'Ritalin' use for patients of an MPN might come along shortly... Might also be worth asking the same question on MPN Voice too... As they have so many more members than we do etc... Just a thought...

My best way of managing my own fatigue levels, is by my anti-inflammatory style diet, exercise, and that ...

very special & wonderful magic of my "Raw-Beetroot" formulae ...

It really does work... Happy to explain more about creating & drinking Raw–Beetroot nectar, if you would like me to, just let me know ok? :-)

I shall be really interested to learn what else you ultimately find out concerning the use of Ritalin for MPN patients too... So please do keep us all in the loop please...

Best wishes... :-)

Steve

Thank you for replying Steve 🙂

I think it was MPN Voice that I saw the post. I also read about Ritalin being prescribed for chronic fatigue syndrome.

The adictive qualities are a worry.

I will bring it up with my specialist when I see him this week and see what he thinks. I have a feeling he won't be keen though.

I have been taking my beetroot powder and have started to get used to the taste! I do feel better after taking it but it's not really getting me over the line energy-wise.

Thanks again Steve 🙂

Hey again... :-))

Firstly, it's always my pleasure... 8-)

2ndly... I have the Beetroot Powder extract too... (But my preference is my Home-made recipe. 8-)

As, I have observed far better results overall, using the 'Real McCoy'... Taste is something to become acquired... :-)

I have also learned that there is a bit of a secret to the successful use of this little magic 'root'

1st thing to remember, is that it must be taken at approximately:

* As the same amount (300-500ml) – & Time, Daily

* I learned that it builds up in one's bodily system/chemistry, & the 1st day has a lesser effect, (hence take 500ml 1st day), then adjust downwards if required
(Me? I tend to have about the same every day - 500ml)

* Remember, if you miss a day, it will take another day to rebuild it back into your system, (that's how it works for me anyways...).

* Once you are consistent, you can miss a day, but you will notice the difference by Day 2 afterwards, ( I do)

* The way I make my own, I believe is very important too... (Happy to share recipe – you only need to ask of course) 8-)

You should try having a chat w/ Warwick, I can give you his email if you like? He is one of our Committee members who has had the ASCT, almost 2 years ago now... But his experiences w/ Steroids etc, are vastly superior to my own, because of what he has already been through w/ the Stem cell transplant etc...

Anyways, let me know if you would like to chat w/ him by email or phone... (?) ok? 8-)

Best wishes

Steve
